The type of visa required for travel to Ghana depends on the purpose of your visit and other relevant factors under Ghanaian immigration law. As a visa applicant, you must meet all the necessary requirements for the category of visa you are applying for.
Entry Requirements for Ghana
- All visitors must have a valid passport or legal travel document.
- A valid entry visa issued by a Ghanaian consulate or authorized agency is required (ECOWAS nationals are exempt).
- Travelers above 9 months must have a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate issued at least 10 days before travel.
Types of Ghanaian Visas
Ghana issues two main types of visas:
- Single Entry Visa – Valid for 3 months from the date of issue and can only be used once.
- Multiple Entry Visa – Valid for more than 3 months (issued at the discretion of the Consular Officer).
Visa Requirements Based on Purpose of Travel
- Business Travel: A letter from the company confirming the purpose and duration of travel.
- Tourism/Family Visit: A letter of invitation from a host in Ghana, a round-trip ticket, and proof of funds.
- Employment: Authorization within the immigrant quota of an employer is required.
- Professional Applicants: Professionals (Doctors, Lawyers, Nurses) must provide proof of qualifications.
Emergency & Special Visas
- Emergency Visas: Available upon arrival for travelers from countries without Ghanaian diplomatic missions (with prior approval).
- Visa Extensions: Requests must be made through the Ghana Immigration Service with supporting financial proof.
Important Notices:
- Ensure all necessary documents are available before traveling.
- Tourist and business visa holders are not permitted to take up employment.
